Ian Zelazny Library Project

Mission statement:  The mission of the Ian Zelazny Library Project is to create a warm and welcoming library space for the shared use of local residents of New  Orleans and Tulane University students. It is the intent that this library space will also serve as host for, and facilitator of, associated programs that will support reading, literacy and learning for both children and adults living in the area around Tulane.

Please see Library Project Update  for details on progress (toward the spirit of the mission, at least).

Ian always loved books.

Ian always loved books.

Ian Gallagher Zelazny, a senior at Tulane University in New Orleans, passed away in his home on Thursday September 27th, 2012. He was 21 years old.

Ian was an artist, a philosopher, and a seeker of truth. He was a dedicated student – a beneficiary of a four-year Presidential scholarship at Tulane – majoring in English and Philosophy with a minor in Psychology. Ian was also deeply involved in the Tulane community, acting as special events chair on the Literary Society Executive Staff, as a member of the Juggling Club, and for some time as a writer for Tulane’s student newspaper, ‘The Hullabaloo.’

Ian’s family has established the “Ian Zelazny Library Fund” at Tulane University in honor of Ian’s love of ideas, of community, and of the written word.

The Library Project is presently on the move from idea to reality (see Library Project Update).

A quote from one of Ian’s favorite authors, Roger Zelazny:

“I like libraries. It makes me feel comfortable and secure to have walls of words, beautiful and wise, all around me. I always feel better when I can see that there is something to hold back the shadows.”
